Capturing memories is always special, but it’s extra meaningful when friends trust you to do so. Recently, we had the pleasure of photographing our close friends Karla and Peter’s extended family for a Sussex countryside family session. We had photographed them before at this Saint Martin Sea Caves family session. This time was just as joyful and memorable.
Karla and Peter are not just clients. They’re the kind of friends we chat with daily, sharing life’s ups and downs. Our daughters, Lindsey and Gemma, were born just two months apart. Anyone who’s shared that bond with a friend knows how meaningful that is. Naturally, we were so excited to document their extended family, especially on their family’s own property. The property, which belongs to Karla’s parents, Edgar and Cindy, gave us the flexibility to explore different spots during this Sussex countryside family session.
Edgar and Cindy have three daughters and four granddaughters. Peter and Edgar are so blessed to be surrounded by so many amazing women. During the session, we were drawn to a stunning field of what we later were told were weeds. Edgar, however, was most proud of the clover in the neighboring field. We made sure to capture moments in both spots. It was the perfect blend of what we loved as photographers and what held significance for the family.
What made this Sussex countryside family session even more special was the chance to showcase the bond between the grandparents and their granddaughters. Edgar and Cindy’s connection with their family, set against the backdrop of a dairy farm and grazing cows, added a unique charm. Sussex, a town known for its dairy farming, provided the ideal setting to highlight the authenticity of this family.
What we aim for in extended family sessions goes beyond just posing. We look to capture the unique relationships and connections. In this session, it was clear that the bond between Karla, her sisters Angela and Karen, and their parents was the heart of it all. We had heard so much about them from Karla over the years. It was a treat to meet them in person. Angela, who had been teaching out west, was finally back home. That made this Sussex countryside family session even more meaningful for everyone.
In the end, we always feel honored when families trust us to photograph moments like these. Knowing that we’ve documented not just faces but real family connections, especially in such a beautiful setting, is incredibly fulfilling. The Sussex countryside continues to be a favorite location, providing the perfect backdrop for unforgettable memories.
