A gorgeous sunny session (albeit windy) overlooking the gorgeous Bay of Fundy by the sea caves of Saint Martins.
Since moving to New Brunswick, Karla has grown to be one of Dianne’s closest friends. Karla is a hardworking teacher in Sussex, and her husband Peter maintains milking parlour systems. We met through our mutual friend Erica. Our kids attended a local Awana kids programs together at a Baptist church in Sussex. We both love all things homestead and believe that best friends are made butchering together and sharing garden harvests. On the day of this session, we were grateful for the warm afternoon and incredible opportunity to capture this beautiful family. Gwenyth, Veida and Maeve had a blast. However, little Gwenyth made sure she was the one who decided when she was ready for photos and when she wasn’t. We rolled with it.
This beach in Saint Martins is such a beautiful location for portrait sessions. The caves overlooking the Bay of Fundy contributed to a timeless gallery. Although the beach had quite a few visitors, we were able to ensure that the background was void of strangers. If anyone did happen to sneak into the background, we edited them out! In order to create an aesthetically pleasing portrait session, we made sure that Peter, Karla and their girls wore outfits that suited this location. Karla does not wear dresses often, so we found a way to still accentuate all the amazing things about her. The wind, the incredible view and the warm sun made this Saint Martins portrait session better than we could have imagined.
Something that we have noticed about New Brunswick is that portrait photography is not very common in certain areas. With that, comes the uncertainty about how one should coordinate all the family member’s outfits. In order to make this a smooth experience we created the Velthove & Co Portrait Style Guide. In this you will find 48 pages of content, all using images captured by us to help you plan and envision your perfect portrait session. Every full family session client gets a physical copy in the mail! If you book a mini session you will get access to the digital version!
Every session involves some type of challenge. One new challenge we faced during this session was the red dirt that the east coast is known for; especially visible in the escarpment. Next time we will be more prepared and aware so that our editing process becomes a lot easier. We still were able to create this incredible gallery despite that bump in the road.
Family sessions may seem frivolous, especially if you have a growing family. We have captured so many beautiful memories and chapters in people’s lives. We have never once had a client wish that they had waited an additional year to have another member of the family be physically part of the shoot if they were pregnant, for example. You will always cherish these photos, the fondness growing over time, as the actual memories fade more and more.
