Exploring the Grand River at the Wilkes Dam | The Veldjesgraaf Family

When this former classmate of mine, Carolyn, contacted me to capture her beautiful family, I knew she would come up with the perfect location, outfits… well, let’s just say, EVERYTHING! And she did not disappoint. Even though I was nervous to shoot at a new location that I hadn’t checked out before (her photographer sister-in-law assured me I’d love it, and that helped), I had these photos envisioned as soon as I arrived. And I was able to capture exactly what I had in mind for this Grand River family session.

EXPLORING

She spun around and around, a big smile on her face. Mommy and Daddy were looking on, while little sister clung tightly to her stuffed rabbit; a little in awe of it all. Meet Amelia & Lilah and their mommy and daddy! Especially Amelia enjoyed exploring, and the whole family just loved to have fun. From collecting snails to splashing in the water, this sessions consisted a lot of me running after these two super adorable energetic kids. And then once in a while, they did something so cute and I just missed it, so I’d have them recreate the moment. This caused some hilarious moments of Amelia looking down at the frog we found, with her bum in the air, because she was afraid to get her bum wet.

TWO SISTERS

Amelia and Lilah wore adorable outfits from Nest and Nurture, and incredible (& CANADIAN) company that creates the most adorable children’s clothing (linked at the bottom of the blog post). They accessorized with cute little bows (including one from by Marah, who does amazing work as always!) We ran and had fun, took a close look at a frog and lots of little snails! I really should call sessions like this “Photos of your Exploration”, because that’s really what it is!

MEMORIES FOREVER

Carolyn is one busy mama of these two, and while they got along so well at their session, I can’t imagine that it’ll be like that forever. Here’s the proof that it once was that way, however! So Darren and Carolyn, enjoy these memories. Enjoy these moments. One day, you’ll wonder where this time went (I’m sure that already happens once in a while), and I am so honoured that I could be part of keeping these memories alive for you in this small way at this Grand River family session.
