Large Family Session | Beach Adventures with The Droogers Family

Capturing friends is always an honour for us. When their wardrobe and the location is as beautiful as it was this time, it’s even better! Come see a little snippet of this large family session at Port Burwell…

Photographing Friends

Friendships that stand the test of time are truly something special. Such is the story of David and Bert, who’ve been friends for what seems like forever. As their wives, we have also formed a strong bond through marriage. This connection led to the heartwarming Droogers family asking us to do their family portraits. This is the tale of their latest photoshoot, a beautiful day spent at Port Burwell’s beach.

The Droogers family has a wonderful tale of their own. Dieneke, who was expecting their second boy at our wedding, has an impeccable sense of style. God first blessed her and David with four boys and then a surprise girl, followed by two more boys. Those boys are lovingly devoted to their sister Romy, whose complexion bears a striking resemblance to her father’s tan.

Ontario Beaches

Dieneke’s love for beach photos has brought her back to us for the second time (see the first beach shoot we did together HERE); each session capturing the beauty of family bonds against the backdrop of the Lake Erie shoreline. While Long Point was the stage for their previous beach session, this time it was Port Burwell, a quiet spot where we were virtually alone. It all came together in an evening full of possibilities, capturing the essence of solitude and connection.

Though Port Burwell lost its iconic boardwalk, the family’s innate warmth and our creative eye transformed the smaller beach we were able to use into a canvas of memories. The diversity of images in their gallery attests to the magic created that day.

Ezra, the youngest of the clan, radiated healthiness, weighing more than our 18-month-old – a testament to the his robust health. Mom, Dad, and eldest son Lawrence took turns carrying the little one. The age range among the siblings provided an endearing dynamic, capturing genuine and sweet interractions.

While Lake Erie may not rival the Bay of Fundy, the azure hues of the water, coupled with perfect weather, made it a close second. The kids’ exploration of the beach led to genuine expressions, beautifully captured by the camera.

The Blessing of Children

Working with a large family, especially on a beach, has its pros and cons. On the positive side, it’s an opportunity to see siblings of varying ages interact, while the challenges include keeping lively kids out of the water and navigating uneven terrain. However, these cons are outweighed by the chance to create diverse, emotion-filled shots. The beauty of the location and the soft lighting of the sunset contributed to the session’s success.

We were able to not only showcase how photogenic they were, but also add a personal touch by sharing Port Burwell’s beauty – and it’s worth exploring. With us behind the camera, the Droogers family’s session becomes an artful tale, documenting the moments of joy, connection, and the beauty of family love.
